Philadelphia C-sections
It is unknown exactly when the first Caesarian section was performed, or even where this procedure gets its name. Its risks, however, have been clearly known for centuries. While modern changes in hygiene and surgical methods have greatly improved the safety of this surgery, it can still lead to serious birth injuries, particularly if it is performed incorrectly or in the wrong circumstances.
Negligence and unpreparedness on the part of a physician during a C-section delivery can leave a child permanently damaged both physically and mentally. If you child has been injured by an improper C-section, including the lack of a C-section when one should have been performed, we can help. C-section Risks
C-sections have historically been considered so dangerous that they were only performed when the mother was dying or already dead. However, the use of cesarean section as a method of birth delivery has skyrocketed in recent years. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the current rate of C-section birth stands at nearly 30 percent of all births in the US. This rate has increased almost 10 percent since 1996.
While current medicine and techniques have improved the safety cesarean section deliveries, it is still a dangerous procedure that can pose several problems for the mother and baby. C-section deliveries sometimes lead to:
- Breathing problems for the infant
- Lacerations in the infant’s skin when the incision is made
- Infection in the mother and/or infant
- Premature birth
- Injuries to the infant caused by anesthesia
Of course, a failure to perform a C-section when one is needed can be just as dangerous. Some women are unable to give birth vaginally due to illness, injury, or their basic anatomy. If they are denied necessary medical intervention, their lives and their children’s are at risk.
