Inmate to File Birth Injury Suit Against County

Posted on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 3:08 am

A Racine County Jail inmate is filing a lawsuit against the county for failing to provide adequate treatment during labor and the birth of her child. The woman was high risk in her pregnancy but was not given proper treatment.

Among the allegations against the county are: the prison staff's failure to respond to nine medical requests by the inmate, not allowing her to go to the hospital and leaving her alone during labor.

The infant was born around 5am on April 1 in the jail cell toilet. She was pronounced dead at 5:58am that same morning at Wheaton Fransiscan-All Saints Hospital.
